Hi. I’m Martin Martin.

Technology has always been a big part of my life; my father was a programmer for the Army in the early 70s, so, not only am I very comfortable with technology, but, as a child of the 80s, I can’t remember life without a personal computer. I accepted my first job out of college, which trained me on new technologies and networking solutions to sell to gov/ed clients, primarily because it let me be around IT stuff. For fun, I’ve taken a semester-long MySQL class and picked up HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript, mainly through years of trial and error, but also from a few online courses because I’m passionate about learning about the power of tech.

Technology not only interests me, its possibilities excite me. I grew up playing with primitive OCR software and paying by the minute to dial in to AOL. In college, IRC (via Telnet) was where I met many of my friends and, for years, I didn’t go anywhere without my Handspring Visor or MiniDisc player. Having beared witness to so much of the evolution of personal and mobile computing, I know not all technology is created equal. While there are some amazing products available, it’s evident there’s plenty of room for improvement and innovation and I’d like to be a part of that. What technology does, can, and will do for people is what excites me!

As a cancer survivor, I’m very motivated to find ways to improve the lives of people not just like me who find themselves coping with things like physical disability, but also like my sister who struggled to transition into society as an adult with learning disabilities, and my parents and the millions of other baby boomers dealing with loss of mobility and cognitive function. I know from experience having access to the right resources can be life-altering and believe well-designed tech that is fundamentally useful, easily usable, and, importantly, a pleasure to use can be the best vehicle to aid, assist, and accompany people through life.

Having finished my master’s at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program in 2021 with a bit of life experience under my belt, I’ve spent the past few of years using my life & professional experience to craft projects that explore ideas in technology through context. For my portfolio site, I’ve tailored my most exciting, challenging, and thought-provoking projects and divided them by theme into four categories: Accessibility & Design, Creative Code, Hardware & Networking, and Interactive Experiences.

I look forward to empowering the world via tech products through future projects!

For now, I hope you enjoy my work and insights. Please, reach out to me with any questions, comments, suggestions, or requests for collaboration. I would love to hear from you. (Sincerely.)
